Meet and Greet

New Century International Elementary School made Cumberland County history when it welcomed its first classes of kindergartners to its Chinese immersion program.  The students will learn all of their core subjects in Mandarin.  By the time they complete fifth grade, these students should be fluent in both Chinese and English and will be exceptionally well-prepared to contribute to our global economy.

What is a Chinese Immersion Program?

A program for students who will be entering Kindergarten at New Century.  Through this program students will learn to understand, speak, read and write in Chinese as well as in English.  Classroom instruction is taught by a teacher who is fluent in Chinese with the exception of resource classes in Art, Music, Media, Guidance, Computers and Literacy.  Children are encouraged in their speech to use Chinese vocabulary and expressions.  Parents are advised to encourage reading in English at home.
