First, we would like to thank everyone for making this food drive a success.  The Beta Club members helped out a great deal with picking up the food from each class on Fridays.  Next week, the Beta club will help with packing bags for the families.  Our school has raised a total of 1,207 nonperishable items.
We know that you are all sitting on the edge of you seats wondering who is the winner for raising the most food items.  The class that raised the most items is Mrs. Green’s Pre-K Class!  They raised a total of 254 items.  This class won the ice cream party!
Mrs. Lee’s Pre-K class was in 2nd place with 223 items and Mrs. Kay-Ann Scott’s 5th grade class received 3rd place with raising 152 items.
Totals by Halls:
200 Hall = 582
300 Hall = 298
400 Hall = 327
We just want everyone to know that we truly appreciate you and what a great way to give during this holiday season.

Wellness Tip: Decode the Menu

When eating out, it can be easy to make poor choices due to convenience. Take time while at restaurants to decode the menu. Look for items that are baked, broiled, grilled, poached, steamed, boiled, or roasted. Take advantage of the 10 Tips: Eating Foods Away from Home or ideas from MyPlate, MyWins Tips: Make Your Takeout Healthier. For more healthful tips, check out wellness.ccs.k12.nc.us.

computer
Recently students in the 4th and 5th grade classes were provided an opportunity to try out their skills at computer coding.  The project was sponsored by a partnership between Google and Donorschoose.  Several teachers selected student work to submit for review and both Ms. Hine and Mrs. Kaiser were notified that one of their students’ submissions was selected to be featured. As part of the partnership, four teachers (Ms. Hine, Mrs, Kaiser, Mrs. Gaines, and Mrs. Schneider) received gift cards valued at $100 to use toward a DonorsChoose project.  To see all the student projects, please follow this link.  The project created by Elijah and the project created by Harini are the ones that were chosen from NCIES student work. Great job!
Here are other projects from around the country that were selected along with Harini and Elijah
